About Panzano
Panzano is a lovely country town, located midway on the beautiful Chiantigiana way, between Siena and Firenze, on the hills of Chianti, in Tuscany. Parts of the original castle remain, incorporated into the church and also as an independent tower.
There is a wonderful view out over the "conca d'oro", the "golden scallop", a south-facing basin lined with vines. Tuscans love this small village above all for the high quality of meat you can buy by a popular butcher who has his shop in Panzano: Dario Cecchini, well known also for its love for Dante’s poetry.
Every year, in October, the butchers’ festival takes place in Panzano, with butchers and Italian cooks coming from all over Italy to present their “artworks” and providing samples for tasting. There is sometimes music and the food is excellent. Buying a quite inexpensive ticket, you can then taste everything you wish.
Another good reason for visiting Panzano in autumn is the suggestive grapes harvest, which usually takes place during late September, early October, in fact Panzano is surrounded by prize-winning vineyards, such as “Il Molino di Grace”.
